| staykeeter's Full Review: LG RU-52SZ51D 52 in. HDTV-Ready DLP TV |
I bought this TV just over a year ago. My first initial pick was a Samsung DLP but due to their limited stock at the time, I settled for the LG. Right from the start I could notice absolutely no difference between high def and regular broadcasts. Regular broadcasts looked very decent but the high def was extremely sub par to the point where I dropped my high def subscription with Bell expressvu. What was the use of having it if there was no difference at all! After about 3 months of owning this set I noticed severe pincushioning on both sides of the screen when viewing in 4:3 modes. I took a trip to the local electronics store to check out other competing brands of DLP's and noticed that all the DLP's I looked at suffered from some form of pincushion effect in 4:3 modes. However, none of these sets came anywhere close to the amount of bending my set was showing. One other problem with this set was with its start up. Randomly the set would turn on and everything would be blue. I would be able to see the television images but with no other color then blue. Turning the set off and then back on seemed to solve this problem but still, something had to be wrong here! After 4 and a 1/2 months of bickering with LG and the shabby repair shop they referred me to, LG finally agreed to authorize my set for a trade at where I bought it. I eagerly went to the store where I bought this set to shop for another and upon talking to the sales person, he told me that they had a bunch of these models come back for the same reasons. If you're considering buying this set due to a great deal, just beware of what you might be buying into.
