Pros: Lovely smashing sound when it hits the pavement
Cons: They. Them. The machine. I got conned.
I brought the LG XBR446 on price - it was the cheapest DVD recorder in the store. Well, I guess I learned. In fact the happiest I have been with the machine was tonight. When I threw it out the window (did I mention that I live on the upper floor?). The DVD recorder packed up first. I took it back to the shop - no problem with it Sir. It must be the disc. So I took it home (what a nice 20 mile drive each way). New type of DVR-R. Same thing - wouldn't record. I took it back complete with disc inside - no problem with it Sir but these recorders are tricky. Took it home. Who needs a DVD recorder anyway?
The video works well (but its a lot of money to pay for a video recorder). Actually I shouldn't say recorder because I never did figure out the timing system. Tried many times but recorded nothing, Still, I have my Pioneer, my JVC and my Sony VCRs to record on. The Sony is so nice that I brought another to supplement the LG (my wife complains about the stacks of machines around the house but I take my video seriously). The video playback is excellent though.
The DVD playback is good - a bit slow to start up. Painfully slow on fast reverse. Counter-intuitive controls, and the buttons on the machine are like secret agents (the symbols are invisible). But set it on play, it makes noise and there is a picture. What more could I want? Then it packed up. Tonight.
I really enjoyed throwing it out the window. Now I know what the initials stand for. Life's Good - when you finally do the right thing and throw Lousy Goods away. Now where is that Sony catalogue?
