| americanpilot's Full Review: Apple iBook 12.1 in. (M8860LL/A) Mac Notebook |
The reason I called this review "My best buddy", is because that is what this little box will become. It works with me and not against me and to top it off it's good looking as well. When researching a replacement for my powerbook 233, the ibook was a no brainer. This little machine is in the sub $1000 category of Apple laptops, which was not an option 5 years ago. In 1997 I had no option but to drain my savings in order to fulfill my need of having the Apple. Now in 2003 their is an option besides the powerbook and in all honesty, I cannot conceive spending and extra grand to have a titanium case and a G4 processor instead of a G3. This Laptop is durable, fast and relatively inexpensive. Now when I say inexpensive I mean inexpensive, not to be confused with cheap. You can buy a PC laptop with a 1.2 Ghz processor for the same price but it will be slower, inferior and of CHEAP quality. Here is what I like: It's real small and light, it does the same job as a powerbook, the OS is typical Apple: "It does not crash", the screen is beautifully crisp, the case is designed to withstand handling & travel abuse, the battery seems to last forever (4 hours of nonstop use) and right out of the box it is ready to work. Now for what I dislike: It gets darn hot on your lap after using it for a while and the inputs are on the side (Not good when you are sitting in a cramped position that requires connection through the back).
