I was only given $1000 to buy a computer I will have to use for the next four years of my college career...
I wisely chose the HP pavilion ze5200
I purchased the computer refurbished from e-cost.com for about $1049 free shipping no tax (for PA residents).
The computer came well packaged and I first noticed wow sharp it looked. The screen which was absent of dead pixels and dark spots.
I immediately formatted the hard drive and loaded Win XP Pro (removed Win XP home) and Office XP Pro.
Drivers were hard to reinstall but upon checking the HP website, all the available drivers were conveniently located on the website.
I had to call tech support for a general question about the computer, it was answered in a surprisingly fast five or six minutes and the associate was friendly and helpful.
The hard drive has ample space; the video card actually plays graphic intensive video games - very rare in a laptop. Screen is large (15.1 inch) and absent of dead pixels and dark spots. It comes with a CDRW/DVD combo drive and a floppy drive, which is nice to see these days and the sound card is a good performer.
I wish this laptop had more USB ports (has three), repositioned the speaker/headphone port, if you have speakers plugged in opening the CD drive is a pain. Also because this lap is considered a desktop replacement it is HEAVY and thick. This thickness leads to a somewhat awkward typing experience but I am getting accustomed to it.
