I have found this laptop to be a great desktop replacement; however, you need to keep it on the desktop. It is quite a beefy laptop, weighing in at 9 lbs. and above. This tends to be the only real problem with the laptop, in terms of mobility and performance. I did have some problems with it, though.
As far as performance goes, the laptop is great. The monitor is huge, it even overlaps the size of the base by a bit (nothing that gets in the way, the screen size is great). The speed is incredible and with my ram upgraded to 198 megs I have no problems running anything. It runs at great resolution and has crisp, clear pictures. In my particular machine I have the 20 gb hard drive, and I am not even coming close to filling it up. I also have the DVD drive with it, which has worked great for the numerous times that I have used it. The battery power is more than enough to last most trips, if you want to bother to lug the 9 lb. thing around with you. I have been travelling in the past week and I brought the laptop with me. It is just like carrying a heavy bag. It gets a bit annoying, but it wasn't too much bother to carry it through the airports. If you had to carry it around all day, however, that would be a different story.
Now come the problems. About a week after I received my machine a line appeared in the monitor. It was a defect in the LCD and therefore it needed to be replaced. Tech support was helpful, however when my LCD was replaced it had a different problem altogether. I needed to have the LCD replaced 2 more times before the technicians could get it done correctly. Needless to say, I'm pleased that a month and a half after receiving my computer I have a brand new monitor, however the process in getting it was more than I would have liked to have dealt with.
So overall, I'm pleased with the machine, however the dell support that went along with it was quite a displeasing experience.
