Pros: Lightweight. Excellent graphics for business. Highly integrated.
Cons: Sound is weak. Waking up from sleep is not clean.
The Bottom Line: If you want a moderately priced, full featured, durable box, I think the Latitude C600 is the best value available.

| Cerretani's Full Review: Dell Latitude C600 (220-6670) PC Notebook |
I'm partial to Dell because of their excellent service and support. As a system administrator I love companies that stand behind their products and actually show up the next day to fix problems.
On to the Latitude C600. This not the lightest or smallest laptop on the market, but it has a more durable feel than IBM's Thinkpad line or Sony's VAIO line. Dual pointing is a nice added feature allowing the unit to be shared for network administration or departmental travel without forcing users to become touchpad lovers or pointer lovers. Integrated NIC and modem is an essential add-on as it keeps your PC card slots open and eliminates cable adapters. The Latitude has great battery life IF you buy the 8-cell Li-Ion. Don't waste your money on the 4-cell.
Audio is very poor as the speakers point out from the sides of the unit and my head is not very often positioned along side my laptop. Headphones are therefore an essential purchase. The fan exhausts from the bottom left corner of the system which seems odd to me. It's easy to block the airflow and therefore have a pretty warm system running on your lap. I make an extra effort to keep the vent open which is an annoying requirement.
The C600 works great running Windows 2000 with 256MB of RAM. Dell ships the system with a utility disk and recovery disk that work reliably with Win 2K, NT, ME and 98.
Save some money by checking Dell's factory store before you configure a unit. I was able to buy an 850Mhz with 256MB RAM, 10 GB harddrive (which is easy to change on the Latitude), DVD, and integrated 10/100 NIC with 56K modem and 3-year warranty for under $2300 (including shipping). I've had great luck with Dell's refurbished systems - I own 5 of them and have had them for an average of a year with no problems to date.
