Pros: light-weight, dual-battery capability, on-board radeon 7500 (3dmark score of 3916!).
Cons: screen is not as bright as some others, takes 2 weeks to get!
The Bottom Line: excellent laptop with tons of great features and only a few would-like-to-have gripes. outstanding performer, very light (only abount 5lbs), looks awesome.

well, went out and bought this puppy a few months ago. it was shipped from osaka, japan. well packed, with everything well in order.
a few observations: first off, what turned me off in the S-series was the fact that air intake was on the bottom of the laptop, and you couldn't hold it in your lap for too long - it got too hot. this has its air intake on the back and exhaust on the left - no problems. mine came in with P4 1.8GHz (sidestepping to 1.4GHz when idle).
things i don't like:
- the screen doesn't look as bright as those on some other laptops (vaio, for one). also, it has a pretty narrow viewing angle - you can't look at it from too far to the left or right. which could be good if privacy is your concern.
- the ethernet port is on the back, making it difficult to find it sometimes (you have to look)
- the power jack can sometimes obscure the USB ports next to it. you can still use them, just have to get the jack out of the way somehow. it would be nice to have the USB ports on one of the sides or something.
- the trackpad has a scrolling button (push up for scroll up, push down for scroll down) which is useless unless you have the drives installed. only works as 3rd mouse button under linux (tested with redhat 8.0)
- speaker sound is pretty poor and gets very distorted if you turn it up. it's ain't no JBL for sure...
things i like:
- dual battery capability for about 5 hours of realistic use
- headphone sound is awesome - the onboard sound has some super-bass thingie that makes it sound great
- multiple security features (dual-level passwords + hard drive password) - very important!
- looks absolutely awesome!
- lightweight and very thin - one of the thinnest P4 laptops i've ever seen (yes, i've seen and used quite a few :).
- onboard radeon 7500 with P4 1.8ghz and 512mb of pc2100 ddr gives a score of 3916 in 3dmark2001se330 at default settings. i've been able to pay quake III arena at 1024x768x32 and unreal tournament at 800x600x32 with full detail and 2xAA/2xAF. very playable!
- dvd/cd-rw performs flawlessly, and so does the USB floppy drive
- lcd display with battery status (too bad it's not back-lit, though)
overall an excellent laptop with lots of high-quality features.
