Pros: fun while it lasted
Cons: loud boot beep can't be silenced...product failure at 18months no customer care
The Bottom Line: Absolutely steer clear of HP if you are concerned about product support. You could be left with a 2100.00 coaster after 18 months.

I have had this notebook for 18 months. I bought it on-line, custom configured from Costo.com. I was pleased with the configuration and performance until, at 6 months past the factory warranty date, the motherboard needed replacement. That was after high-priced tech-support concluded I had a software problem that necessitated the reformatting of my hard-drive. Therefore, I lost data and work time, in addition to being assessed with a potential 700.00 bill for tech time and replacement of the primary functioning part of this computer in well under 2 years of very light usage. HP management was unreasonable and refused any responsibility for this major product failure within what would be deemed by any reasonable person as a time frame in which this machine should continue to operate. I was never offered an extended warranty option on the brand new computer. I offered HP management two viable compromises to make good on their defective product. Either discounting the repair considerably or extending the warranty on the new part. They were not willing to make either accommodation. The warranty on the 700.00 (by the time I paid tax and shipping) part was 90 days. That means that withing 91 days, I could have yet another un-covered failed motherboard and no recourse. It was quite clear that Gary, the manager I spoke with, was concerned only with putting away numbers of customers he "gave" nothing to. He told me I could quote him on his saying that HP product failure was the customer's responsibility. So I am. Beware...they really don't give a rip about your business, this company and Gary thinks it's your fault if they sell you a computer with faulty components. We own several stores and influence the buying of many more stores in our marketing group. We have bought HP products in the past, but because of the OUTRAGEOUS lack of resolution to this customer issue, we will not be buying more. I believe that 18 months is well within the reasonable period of expected service of electronic equipment of this sort. The way they have it worked out now, you get to use your new, top of their line notebook for eighteen months, then pay them 700 more for the privilege of continuing to use it. That is the customer service equivalent of a hostage situation. I'll cut my losses and buy from a reliable company from this time on.
