If you are planning on an all in one computer that you can also use as a hammer or a blunt object to hit your wife/husband/significant other with, then this just might work for you. It Slices, it Dices, it can change the oil in your car and walk the dog for you!
OK, maybe it can't do quite all those things, but it is close. Oh, and before anyone uses it as a hammer and gets mad at me when their warrantee is voided because of physical abuse, DON'T use it as a hammer. OK?
Anyways, this is the top of the line in the F500 series notebooks from Sony. Basically, the F series notebooks are the All-In-One notebooks, where the floppy drive and DVDROM drive are both built in so it is all one unit. Why is this a plus? With the Slim-Top notebooks, you have to have an external floppy drive and an external CDROM drive, which means to carry it anywhere you have to take all those other pieces as well.
OK, now Sony makes really good computers, but they are also expensive. If you just want to check your email and play Solitare like my Mom does, then you don't need to get this top of the line Sony computer. If that is the case, and you are interested in Sony Notebook computers, then look at like the F520, because it will work just as well for those funcions but will be a fraction of the cost.
If you are interested in video editing, I usually recommend going with the Digital Studio (desktop) computers, because they run a lot faster and have more dedicated Video RAM. BUT, if you just really have to have a notebook computer and want to do this, then go with the top of the line, which is the F590. It has all the software needed to import digital video from a camera using the i.Link (Firewire, IEEE1394) port, edit the video using Adobe Premiere LE, and then export the video back to a camera. Not too shabby for a Notebook computer...
This model also supports Video Out, which some of the lower end models don't. This feature is pretty nice when you use it with the built in DVDROM drive, because you can watch DVD movies on your TV after you enable this feature. I think this option is pretty cool because you have a portable DVD player that you can take with you anywhere you go. I like it because I travel quite a bit and I can watch movies in my Hotel Room just by plugging into the AV in jacks on the TV.
In general, like I said, if you just need a computer to play Free Cell and check EMAIL, then don't spend the extra money for this model, stick with the lower end systems. BUT, if you are looking to do multimedia type applications, then you want to go with the higher end system.
