| khosea's Full Review: Sony VAIO GRV670 PC Notebook |
I recently upgraded my laptop from a Dell Inspiron 8200 to this slick machine and I have to tell you - this is a steal for the money. I got what I thought was a great deal from Dell on my Inspiron last year for around $1500 until I recently came across this Sony Vaio GRV-670 for about $250 more. The comparative value of the Sony Vaio was so much greater when I looked the specs side by side that I sold my Dell and bought the Sony. Judge for yourself.
My Dell came with 128mb of DDR that I had to upgrade to 512mb of DDR myself, a 15" XGA screen, an Nvidia Ge 440 graphics card with 32mb of DDR ram, a 1.6 Pentium 4 processor, a fixed CDRW/DVD combo drive,a 20 Gig hard drive loaded with Windows XP Home edition, An extra battery (with the 2 batteries I could go for 7 hours without plugging in) dual modular bays (both of which were occupied by batteries) and a full complement of connection options (i.e., 2x USB 1.1 ports, s-video, ps-2, serial port, pc card slots type I and II, firewire, mic/speaker/headphone). This was a very solid machine for that price. The Sony blew those specs away by far for a very minimal increase in price.
The Sony Vaio Grv-670 has a gorgeous 16" SXGA screen, a 2.6 Ghz intel pentium 4 processor, 512mb of DDR ram, a 40 gigabyte hard drive, a removeable CDRW/DVD combo drive, ATI Radeon 9000 graphics card with 64mb DDR, a very similar complement of connection options to what i mentioned above...(although it does not have a s-video connector which I use for multimedia presentations with a projector) it does have 3 usb ports, a firewire port, a type I, II pc card slot, a built in sony memory stick reader as well as several other basic connectors, ect. This configuration came with Windows XP home edition but for $100 more you can get it with Windows XP Professional(look for GRV-670P).
