| shiraus's Full Review: Toshiba Satellite 1115-S103 (PS111U-001FUV) PC Not... |
I got my Toshiba on Super Bowl day this year. I've been wanting to get one forever, and suddenly I found this great deal from Staples. This notebook had $350 on rebates, so it ended up being an awesome deal (notice I wrote $990 as the price, but after rebates the price was lower).
But let's get to the point. You can read about the technical specs from the "details" page, so I won't go much into that. The laptop has Windows XP on it, which I really like. All the programs run fast, and the laptop can easily handle multitasking. It is also very reliable machine. I've had it for months now and I use it pretty much every day for surfing the internet, writing papers, downloading... And during the months I've only had it freeze once. Pretty good for Windows.
The Toshiba Satellite is a very portable laptop. I've taken mine to the local library - it fits easily into your backpack and doesn't weigh too much. The screen has a little lock on it, so it won't open unexpectedly in your bag.
The only minor headache I've had with my Toshiba is the touchpad. Sometimes it seems to have a mind of its own. When surfing the net it doesn't want to keep up with me, but I guess that's more of a user-problem than a technical bug. :-) This laptop doesn't have the little thing in the middle of the keyboard where you could control the cursor.
What's great about the technical side of the Toshiba is that it has 3 USB connections in the back of the laptop. I purchased one of those keychain memory sticks and it plugs into a USB connection. Works great. I'm also planning on buying a small mouse, which would also utilize the connector. Still, after the two items, there will be an empty slot available.
I haven't measured the time the battery lasts, but it's pretty long. Of course I bought the laptop as new, so the battery is also brand new. You can also recharge the battery while you use the laptop, and before you know it, the battery is full again. What bugs me with the battery is that soon after it hits below 50%, the screen goes a shade darker. There is probably a way to change this, but I have not discovered it yet.
In summary I would say that the Toshiba Satellite is definitely a good option when trying to choose between laptops.
