I remember reading that comment somewhere... I think it is what prompted me to finally publish my review!

I think there is no brand out there with a perfect record, and there is definitley such a thing as a "bad batch".

My sisters old dell had much worse problems with the end result being the screen falling off!!! I have also seen two sony's and one dell with the screens cracked.

I guess I just have to keep my fingers crossed!!!

I thought you did a really good job on your review!

I left this comment for someone else, yesterday, who reviewed a different Toshiba laptop that she just got. You said you've had the laptop for a couple of years and haven't had any major issues. I'm really happy for you!!

I am typing this using a Toshiba Tecra 9000.

Toshiba's and Dell's have been the laptops of choice for my employer (usually not at the same time).

When I last needed a new computer, Dell was not being offered as a choice. I was upset because although my old Dell laptop was out of date and slow I remembered all the problems fellow employees had over the years with all the Toshibas we had ever purchased including the Satellite Pros and the Tecras. At one point, years ago I was the only one to get a Dell laptop and I was the ONLY one who never had a problem with hard drive crashes or other hardware problems. I was cringing at getting a Toshiba.

Well I had good reason to be. I got this Tecra about a 1-1/2 years ago. I have already had two I/O boards, the keyboard and the speaker replaced, my hard drive crashed and a new system board was recently installed. And I don't believe it was that this particular one was a lemon. The others in my group, including my manager, had almost all the same problems. Then I started hearing from our IT Helpdesk people about the problems everyone else was having.

But my problems were NOTHING compared to the newer model that my company was distributing to employees after this one. I think it was the Tecra 2100. I got off easy compared to my co-workers this time. There were SO many problems with the Toshibas that my company was actually allowing the employees for a period of time to turn in the new problem plagued Toshiba 2100's and get Dells.

As a side note, you're probably wondering why my company still buys the Toshibas when we have so many problems with them. Well, most of us wonder the same thing! I work for a very large technology company (no, it's not MS) so there's no telling why those decisions are made to keep buying these problem plagued machines.

I won't argue the performance of the machines. The Toshibas are good machines. I just don't feel they are reliable. The issue you had with overheating was a big problem with other Toshibas that my co-workers have/had (that's one problem I haven't had).
