The hardware is fine for the price point: performance, keyboard and screen are good. The Toshiba power management software, however, is horrible. Every time the computer goes into standby while on AC power it crashes so hard that I have to unplug the AC power and then pop the battery out to get the computer to shut down. Even when the computer reboots, it will typically "lose" all the USB devices attached as well as any PCMCIA cards, especially wireless access cards. Toshiba customer service simply denies that this problem exists but I run two laptops in almost identical configurations and the Toshiba has all these problems while a similarly configured IBM has none of them. I am especially dissapointed because my previous experience with Toshiba laptops was excellent. Even though Toshiba still makes good hardware, my advice is:
1. avoid Satellite laptops and spend the money for a thinkpad
2. if you don't take my advice #1, know that Toshiba customer service will be worthless and be prepared to either A. never let your laptop go into standby mode or B. strip out all Toshiba software as soon as you get the computer and then reinstall XP. It will be a pain, but it will save you a lot of grief later.
