Pros: Huge ball actuated by thumb *or* middle two fingers
Cons: Needed a shoe-heel shaped piece of mousepad glued to its "tail" as a hand rest
The Bottom Line: The more the product you're looking at buying is like this one, the happier you're going to be.

| flacorps's Full Review: Logitech Trackman Marble FX (904257-0600) Trackbal... |
This trackball has not been on the market for a long time, I've had mine for years and years now. I was shocked to find sellers on a popular site asking over $400 each for them today. I don't see similar ones in Logitech's current lineup, and that's a shame. The Cordless Optical Trackman is perhaps a pale echo, but I wouldn't want to recommend it without having one in my hand.
What I have is simply the most marvelous pointing device ever produced for a PC (note: only for right-handers). While it's possible something more modern might wow me, I simply have no reason to look around.
The key to its superiority is the fact that it supports the natural contours of a hand at rest. If you look at the photo, you will see that the trackball sits under an arch. When your hand is on the device, your index finger is draped across that arch. What this means is that your hand is completely supported from one end to the other. Fatigue is virtually banished (once you glue something soft to the tail of the unit ... if you leave it hard, it will start to hurt the heel of your hand).
The left mouse button falls under your thumb, the right mouse button is actuated by your pinkie. There are two other small buttons near the thumb. The larger beige one allows you to use the trackball as a scroll wheel, while the smaller one ... well, I'm not sure ... the manual isn't handy and I cant make it do anything. It might be a center mouse button for legacy apps that use it.
The ball is optical, and despite the fact that gravity brings loads of debris into its cradle, it seldom drags and never gets jittery. The ball rides on three spring-loaded metal points that need only very occasional cleaning. Also, the left mouse button occasionally needs cleaning for debris that can build up underneath it.
I believe I will have this mouse until it stops working and I find myself unable to repair it. As Charlton Heston said ... "from my cold, dead fingers!"
