| rovron's Full Review: Magellan 750 NAV Car GPS Receiver |
While on vacation in California this past summer, we rented a car from Hertz. It was a Lincoln Continental, with a navigation system in it. This system was called the Magellan Neverlost Navigation System.
I had never seen anything like it. We got in our car and set out for the Hotel we were staying at. My husband was driving ,so I got to control the Magellan. I pressed the power button to turn it on, and the navigation system went on to list the how to's and the don'ts. One of the things it tells you is not to play with it while you are driving. You should put your information into it while your car is still parked. It even asked if you are the driver using this or the passenger. Since I was the passenger I got to put all the information into it.
When you get to the menu page, it has you move your arrow too: Popular Attractions, Streets, Intersections, Road maps, or list by name. Once you click on to what you want, it either gives you a list (for example-attractions), or shows you the alphabet where you press on each letter of the place you want. After highlighting so many letters, it will show you a list of places with that name. You then highlight the one you want. If it doesn't show you what your looking for then go to street addresses and it will tell you how to get where your going. This system works on anywhere from 3 to 8 satellites depending on where you are located.
The navigation system gives you a choice of listing each turn or point you will go too, or showing you a map. The neat thing is that a woman's voice comes on and tells you when and where to make your turns or go straight. If you make a mistake, because you didn't see the street you were suppose to turn on, the voice comes on and says make a u-turn and follow new instructions.
This product was wonderful. I don't think we would have seen as many places as we did. It saved us time and I believe money, by not getting lost like so many of us do when on vacations. Not to put men down, but as a woman, I didn't have to nag my husband to stop at a gas station and ask for directions. I think he liked that most.
I happen to be looking for a new car at this time. It seems that all the new cars have the option of this new navigation system. I have to keep telling myself that unless it is included in the price of the car, I really do not need one in my own hometown.
This system is not cheap. It usually comes with one disc for your part of the country, and you can buy other discs for the rest of the country. You can even buy discs that can be used in Europe. It can cost anywhere between $1,000 to 3,000 dollars more depending on your type of car. Since the farthest we travel in my car is only 3 to 4 hours, it doesn't pay for me. However when we go to another state or country and rent a car, I wouldn't do without it.
With it, you never really do get lost!!!
