Pros: Very accurate and easy to use.
Cons: It shouldn't cost $50 to 'authorize' a CF card!
The Bottom Line: I do recommend this unit because of its price and accuracy. Make sure you get all the CF you can for your first 'authorization'.

| hogeyman's Full Review: Magellan RoadMate 500 Car GPS Receiver |
Judging by the number of reviews, I must be the only one that has purchased the RM 500. So far, I am very happy with it. I've had it a week. It is accurate except on secondary streets in medium-small towns. So far, I have not been misled by its guidance. The voice prompts are perfectly timed. The volume of the voice prompts could be a little louder; sometimes it is hard to hear. It is feature packed. The documentation that came with the unit does not cover all of its features. If you purchase this unit, get the windshield mount because the vent mount is cumbersome and cheap. I'm surprised they even supply the vent mount.
My understanding is that the Roadmate 500 Plus comes with the windshield mount. The 500 is significantly less expensive than the 700 and the only difference I see is the amount of map data that it can hold. If you want to cover 6-7 states in a day then you may need to buy the 700. You can purchase extra CompactFlash cards to hold more map data but you have to pay Magellan $50 to 'authorize' the card. I believe you can 'authorize' one card in addition to the card that came with the unit free. My unit came with a 256mb card and I have 4 states on it.
UPDATE: The power button is far too BRIGHT for night driving. I had to cover it with tape!
