| jarednc's Full Review: Margi Systems Display-to-Go (4 MB) Video Card |
I purchased a used Margi Display to Go card on eBay and added it to an older Windows 2000 system (450MHz Celeron, 256MB).
I got an error during installation but found the patch readily available on Margi's site. It seems that subsequent Windows service packs messed up the install software that shipped with these cards. After installing the patch, the secondary VGA monitor was recognized immediately and all was fine. The ReadMe.txt file that came with the patch was nicely detailed.
I tested the rotation option in the configuration software and found that it got stuck 180 degrees the wrong way (I could not set it back to 0 or 270). Rebooting and setting it to 270 degrees fixed this, but it was an indication that this is old technology.
At 4MB, this card is fine for non-intensive graphics, such as text and still photos. Web surfing is fine. I have not tested it with a DVD, but a QuickTime movie seemed fine.
Most Windows XP laptops these days support dual displays using the laptop monitor and the VGA output--so this card is only necessary if you want three monitors (including laptop LCD) or two full-sized monitors.
