Pros: large capacity, excellent cleaning, top-loading comfort, low water usage, digital timer shows time remaining
Cons: Small items can get stuck under the edges of the tumbler discs
The Bottom Line: If you don't mind washing everything on the "wrinkle control" cycle, it's great!

| cconwill's Full Review: Maytag Neptune⢠FAV6800AW Top Load Washer |
I chose this model because I was looking for a top quality washer that had low water usage. I did not want a front loader because I don't like bending over to load the clothes, and my prior front loader had mildew and sludge build-up in the crevices of the rubber door seal. This model seemed to offer the best of both worlds with the low water usage of a front loader and the convenience of a top-loader.
The first few loads were a disaster. Clothes that used to come out ready to wear from an el cheapo washer/dryer I had in my old house were now so wrinkled they were unwearable. At first I thought it was the dryer's fault (the matching Neptune model), but after some trial and error, I concluded it was the washer. I solved the problem by using the "wrinkle control" cycle for every washload, and now the clothes come from the dryer ready-to-wear.
The clothes come out very clean; I use liquid Tide hi-efficiency for front loading washers. A consumer magazine said that this washer was very hard on clothes, but I have been using it for a month and see no evidence for that. In fact, judging by the small amount of lint produced by each dryer load, I would conclude this washer is gentler on clothes than my prior front-loader.
This is my first experience with a digital/lcd control panel and I find that I really like it because it displays exactly how many minutes are remaining in the cycle.
One disadvantage of the two-tumbler system is that if you accidentally wash small items like coins, the can get wedged under the edges of the tumbler discs in the bottom of the basket. I had a dime get stuck down there between the edges of both tumblers and it was hard to remove.
