I bought this washer just over 2 years ago because of the 40+ year old Maytag we had just owned. The old one was bought as "used" by my mother-in-law in 1976. She gave it to my husband in 1990 and I inherited when we married in 1993. My in-laws spent nothing on repairs as it served them well, without problem. The whole time we owned it, my husband and I we spent a total of $43CDN on a belt and service call in 2003. Finally the transmission gave out and we looked only at Maytags. That is how I ended up with this money pit!
Less than 6 months after bringing it home, it needed a new transmission, which was done under the one year warranty. I was now very worried about this washer. Two months after my warranty expired, the washer stopped spinning clothes properly, leaving every fourth or fifth load soaking wet, usually heavy stuff.
I contacted Maytag and they referred me to my local repair depot. The technician told me I should have bought another brand. Maytag is not made by Maytag anymore. I am the proud owner of $700CDN worth of chinese-made/assembled crap. They are not the quality products our parents used for 20, 30, 40 years. I was told I would be one of the lucky ones if I got 5 years out of it. FIVE YEARS! FIVE YEARS!
I did not bother to have the repair man out because it did not happen all the time, but now I have to re-spin almost everyload, whether it is towels, blankets or a handful of delicates. I am determined to unload this junk and buy something else before too much longer.
I did email Maytag's customer service department when the balance/spinning problem became a real nuisance. They replied, via email, more than two weeks later! They thanked me for my feedback, explaining that consumer feedback is an "integral part of the product improvement program". They went on to say that they are pleased to hear I am enjoying my Maytag appliance and they are sure I will continue to for many years.
So, now just about every load has to be re-spun. Each time this happens, I send off another email to Maytag. They have stopped responding. I continue to email, regularly, very, very regularly.
