Excellent value for price; kids LOVE it!

Pros: Low price ($129.00 at Costco), excellent beginners/backup unit. Exceptional optics for the price.

Cons: Optional tripod (#882) is very shaky. Manual not very clear.

The Bottom Line: All in all I recommend this piece of equipment for the new amateur astronomer and as a backup unit for advanced users.

Found this unit at Costco for under $129.00. Street price hovers around $199.00 so I couldn't pass this up! Very appropriate packaging, well built, came with Autostar controller & software. Very stable on table tops but the recommended (not included) tripod, Model #882, is too shaky for the price (around 99.00).

Included were two eyepieces (25mm/9mm). Good enough to start and well made. We were able to set it up and use 20 minutes after opening box. The GO TO feature is really amazing and very helpful for the beginning stargazer. This feature lets the telescope point to the desired star/planet automatically, saving much of the frustration from trying to find an object in the sky without experience.
