An acceptable card reader, but if I had the time I would shop around

Pros:Durable, no read/write errors in over two years
Cons:Delay in recognizing CompactFlash cards. Outdated by USB 2.0
The Bottom Line: A good product for its day, but the delay in recognizing the card was annoying and USB 1.1 speed will frustrate most digital camera users.
This is the first Microtech product I have purchased and while its performance has been satisfactory, it is now an outdated product with USB 2.0 card readers on the market now.
I have used the Smartmedia slot only once with no problems, and the compactflash card slot hundreds of times, also with no problems.

The Good:
Easy to install with the included CD.
Has been durable in the two years I've used it. Eject button is easy to use and has never become stuck.
The Bad:
Sometimes if my computer is left on for long periods of time the card reader will not recognize any cards put into it and I will need to reboot my PC. However, this may not be the card reader's problem, but a problem with Windows 2000 being unstable over long periods of no shutdowns.
It sometimes takes up to 5-10 minutes before the card reader will recognize that a CompactFlash card has been inserted into the slot. This got annoying enough that I would put a card in and then do another task for about 15 minutes before I would check on the card again to avoid the frustration of it not being seen.
The USB 1.1 technology this is based on can cause a significant delay in transferring 2+ MB files. Since my digital camera produces 2.2MB files at highest resolution, this can be tedious. This alone is another reason to withhold recommending this product.
Summary:
Durable and no reading/writing problems in two years of use. However, recognizing the card can take 5-10 minutes and that is enough for me to not recommend this product. Also slow USB1.1 speed.
