| bman786's Full Review: Mitsubishi WS-65313 65 in. HDTV CRT TV |
After being a satisfied customer of the Mitsubishi 50" VS-585R, a 1988 model that I still own and is going strong, I decided it was time to upgrade to HDTV. I decided to stick to Mitsubishi and got the WS-65313 for $2099 at Best Buy. With extended warranty, a gift card, sales tax, and few other kudos, it came to right under $2700. I wanted to get the biggest HDTV I could afford. All I can say is "Wow". For what is considered an entry-level to Mitsubishis line of 2003 RPTVs, it is quite impressive. If I had more $$$, I would've opted for the WS-65813, but this will do fine for now. This TV is mainly good for watching HDTV broadcasts and DVDs using component video inputs. Regular analog cable channels seem more grainy than my old big-screen. I had it professionally calibrated, but the out-of-the-box settings were fairly decent already, except for the color temperature which must be set at low (default is high). My key complaints have to do with the viewing angle which is not as good as my old big-screen, plus the diamond shield makes the picture too dim at times. Also non-digital shows sometimes tend to be too soft or grainy. I'm glad I chose 65" because size matters, especially after watching HDTV broadcasts of the SuperBowl, Daytona 500, Grammy Awards, NBA All-Star game, and several movies on HBO HD.
Pros:
* Great HDTV picture (for HDTV broadcasts)
* Variety of input options in back pannel
* Price
Cons:
* Closed Caption Decoder does not work for HDTV channels or progressive scan (480p) mode DVD
* Poor viewing angle
* Broadcasts from normal analog cable or satellite sometimes seem too soft or grainy
