Pros: Deep, precise bass. Smooth highs and accurate mid-range.
Cons: Possibly overstated mid-bass. Very long run-in period.
The Bottom Line: These speakers add a great deal to my enjoyment of (5.1 and DTS) movies and (CD and DTS) music.

| kitasgu's Full Review: Monitor Audio Silver S2 Main / Stereo Speaker |
These speakers are an upgraded to my home theater main speakers (JBL Studio Series S38). As noted on the product website FAQ, these speakers require 50-150 hours of run-in time. Out of the box, they did not sound exceptional like the ones at the store. It took about a month of 3-4 hour run-in sessions each day before they started sounding nice.
The bass produced by these speakers is deep and precise; they come with rear bass port plugs to dampen the bass when the speaker is placed near a wall or in a corner. The mid-bass is possibly a slight bit too robust; in comparison, the bass frequencies produced by the S2s extend much deeper and are more precise than the JBLs (more separation of sounds). The high end frequencies are very smooth and the mid-range frequencies are very precise. These speakers revealed reproduction deficiencies with my JBLs (which is a very good speaker) that I did not know were there.
The addition of these speakers to my home theater audio was a very welcome upgrade. I am a very happy camper.
These speakers are probably more than most home theaters need; B&W DM600 S3 speakers can provide all the sound quality needed for many home theaters configurations. They don't sound as nice as the S2s, but cost half as much (I recently upgraded my surrounds with the B&W speakers and listened to them as mains during the short run-in period.)
