| jackyche's Full Review: Sceptre X 7 Komodo II 17 inch LCD Monitor |
Okay, I have to admit, this is my first LCD flat panel display. I've been a long time user of a 17" Iiyama CRT display and had always been very happy with it, but the Sceptre was an addition not a replacement to my arsenal.
I added the Sceptre as a dual monitor setup, so I have actually a CRT and LCD side by side for comparison. Even though its my first LCD, I understand the terminologies.
Contrast ratio is very good. At 450:1, I can distinguish shades and text very very well. In fact, so well, that I believe its considerably better than a Dell 17" LCD (my second LCD) which I also have right next to me.
Brightness is also top notch. Obviously it stands head and shoulders above the CRT, as all LCD flat panels should. No distinguishable dead pixels I can see. Of course, your individual luck may vary.
Viewing angle is above average. Keep in mind, my average is the Dell one I have next to me. Since its noticeably better than the Dell, its probably the average one out there. Of course, I'm basing this with the assumption that Dell 17" LCD is NOT pure junk. However, with that in mind, you will notice color shifts at 20-degrees changes in viewing angle. White will appear yellow-ish. Not intolerably by any means, but certainly noticeable.
Controls takes a little getting used to. But luckily, it has an auto-adjust selection which makes it easier because you wouldn't have to fiddle around the menu system. And the auto-adjust works really good.
Its a multimedia display. Meaning it comes with speakers. Keep in mind, they're very very weak speakers. Soemthing like 5-watts. So don't expect your Lord of the Rings Dolby 5.1 DVD to come to life. But you're not buying this display for its speakers.
The display will tilt with relative ease. It will not swivel on its base. Never thought that was a big deal.
Bottomline, excellent monitor. I'd actually buy more if it weren't for the rebate being one per address.
