Pros: Not many - perhaps okay for certain drinks with little tequila
Cons: Simply put - harsh, foul, gaggable, nasty.
The Bottom Line: Not for the connoisseur - I would not even recommend to tequila initiates or any college student. Pretty awful.

| damascus_steel's Full Review: Montezuma Gold Tequila |
Alright. This tequila was actually recommended by a site that will remain nameless. How it has ever been recommended, I don't know. First off, if you are a regular tequila drinker, stay away. You know there's better out there. Second, if you are a first time tequila drinker, stay away. Trust me, there's better to be had. Perhaps the character Tequila in John Woo's "Hard-Boiled" might be comfortable drinking this, but not me.
Rarely does my stomach turn at the smell of liquor. Rarely. I have been known to consume virtually anything that contains alcohol. However, when I first opened my bottle of Montezuma gold tequila, my senses were dumbfounded. My nose was struck with a sickening sweet agave smell, and my brain instantly said "bad." Indeed, the first taste was enough to tell me that I had bought a foul spirit.
I tried Montezuma in several mixed drinks; it overpowered them all. Perhaps is used in small doses and with several other ingredients, this tequila might be drinkable. But with the pricetag (at least what I paid) at about $11, it's absolutely not worth it. So many other tequilas may be found at slightly more expensive cost, or even the same cost! I'm really not even sure how to describe the taste of Montezuma. Someone used "burnt," which is mostly correct. There's really not much to taste - aging in wood has not helped this tequilas flavor.
In all honesty, I can imagine a worse gold tequila. However, I don't think I have yet tasted a worse gold tequila. Trust me, folks, you want to pass this one up. Where I'm from, it's not even that cheap, and even if it was, there are far superior tequilas on the shelf. Avoid it.
