| lordquench's Full Review: Abit BP6 Motherboard |
Six months ago the only thing we poor gamers could afford were Intel Celeron processors. They are a great value with speed close to their big brothers the Pentium II's. When I saw the Abit BP6 with dual Celeron support and wonderful overclocking abilities I knew I had to have one.
I assembled my new computer with all the shiny new parts and started working out the problems. I can honestly say that I have never had as much trouble keeping a computer stable as my BP6 computer. Usually the hard part is getting everything running, not keeping it running. My dreams of overclocking have been crushed since it won't even remain stable at regular clock speed.
I have an Associates Degree in Information Systems and almost 6 years experience digging around the inards of computers. I admit with school and work I've never really had time to do much work on that computer. A new BIOS is released seemingly every week and none of them that I have had time to try seem to fix any problems.
A great source of information for BP6 users is www.bp6.com. It has everything you need to know about BP6. You should check it out if you are considering this mother board. It also has a message board for posting questions and listening to the hundreds of other people who can't keep this board stable.
I'm sure that the BP6 is a great board for hard core techies who have literally days of time to spend working out the kinks. But for someone who wants to actually "use" the computer when they get their 15 minutes of free time, I suggest looking around for a more stable board.
*Side Note*
A bad batch of BP6 boards were released. They were version 1.1. If you decide to get a BP6, make sure that it is not a v 1.1.
