seabird20's Full Review: Intel Desktop Board D845GERG2 Motherboard
I bought the d845gerg2 in February of this year. I installed it in an Antec case with a 350 watt power supply. The installation was easy. I attached 512MB PC2700 DDR, a Maxtor 60GB hard drive a no-name CDRW and a no-name floppy. The board had integrated video (which is why I wanted it in the first place). It is on a LAN at my home.
The board never worked satisfactorily for me. Every now and again it would freeze solid, usually when performing CPU intensive operations. I first suspected heat problems, but the Intel monitors showed that everything was in tolerance. What did seem a bit strange, though, was how quickly the CPU temp rose and fell. After a few months of trying to get it to work, and several calls with Intel, they told me to try different memory. I tried that and same effect. Eventually Intel took the board back and sent a replacement - same problem. I broke down and bought a Soyo board (the Soyo P4I845PELite). I installed the identical peripherals, put it in the identical case and it performed perfectly.
Based on this experience I would not recommend the combination of the D845GERG2 board and the Antec Solution case with Kingston memory. It seemed as if it was hard to get the necessary airflow to the board because of its small form factor and this the close proximity of parts.
