| Itztommy's Full Review: MSI Slot 1 BX Master Motherboard |
Awww.. the Microstar BX Master. I just purchased this motherboard for my new system I put together. I did a ton of research on the best BX based motherboard out there.
I read tons and tons of reviews about motherboards. The BX Master just came out the best. The BX master is a GREAT motherboard. It supports Slot 1 CPU's. I got a Pentium III Flip Chip. So I am running the Slocket II which is a Slot 1 adapter for the PIII FC-PGA. I have been running mine for about 2 months now, and not a single problem.
The BX Master uses the highly integrated Intel 82443BX AGP chipset to support the PCI/ISA and Green Standards. The BX Master also supports the System Hardware Monitor Controller. Its functions include: CPU/power supply/chassis fan revolution detect. This really comes in handy becuase, its a easy way to know if your fan has takin a dump on you or not.
Here are some of the features it has:
¤ Designed for Pentium II/III Processor.
¤ Supports 66/100MHz F.S.B. (Front Side Bus)
¤ AGP/PCI/ISA Bus Architecture
¤ Free PC Hardware Health Monitoring Software (PC Alert II)
¤ Coppermine Ready
¤ 6 PCI slots
¤ AGP X2
¤ Capable of connecting up to eight IDE devices.
¤ 4 slots for RAM
This installation was a snap. It fit in my case no problem.
Those are just some of the main features it has. The MSI has a Diagnostic LED Lights on the board. What they are is lights to tell you want your system is doing. This are very helpfull when you are having problems with your system. I have not had to use these yet and hopefully never have too.
The BX master has a really good BIOS in it. There is actully two BIOS in one chip. I have found that the BIOS on this board is really good, very stable. It has a really easy-to-do BIOS update.
I have Overclocked my CPU to 825MHz. I have done so just by bumping up the FSP and the CPU voltage in the BIOS. This motherboard makes it really easy to OC your CPU. It even tells you how to Overclock your CPU in the manual. So basicly this board was made for you to OC your CPU!
There really are not any cons I have about this Mobo. Just that it has a ISA card. There just really is no need for it. It's just kind of a waste of a PCI slot. But im sure the newer boards will not have any ISA slots.
So if you are in the market for a BX based Mobo, go with Microstar BX Master. It has to be the top of the line for a BX board.
