This is by far the worst, buggiest electronics device I have ever purchased (or rented since we are paying Comcast $10/month for the privilege). I really don't know where to begin -- ours is the one with 2 tuners, so you should be able to watch while recording something else. The model # is DCT6412/2005.
This device freezes every time we use it -- sometimes for only a few seconds, sometimes bad enough to have to reboot it. But not just reboot using the power button, that doesn't do anything -- we have to actually do a hard reboot, turn off power while its running - to get it to unfreeze off a program we are TRYING to watch. But this device requires a reboot at least once per day -- likely more than that.
Other times it will freeze while you are fastforwarding -- and it will forward beyond the length of time that the show allows (it will go to 61 minutes when there are only 60 minutes recorded).
If you don't watch the show within a week of recording you may as well delete it since older files become un-viewable (freeze). Not only does this device basically not do the job its supposed to do (record and let you play it back at your convenience) it actually degrades your cable TV as well. If its freezing or having problems you can also kiss off any possibility of watching just plain old cable TV until you resolve that issue.
I am sure the Comcast and Motorola reps would say - 'oh its probably just this device - why don't you try another?' Given the breadth and depth of problems with this DVR I just don't buy that excuse. And we don't have time to troubleshoot a product that apparently wasn't tested.
We are going today to return this device and give a piece of our minds to the reps there, and then we will go and purchase a Tivo. Good bye Motorola!!!
