magenta321's Full Review: Logitech Wheel Optical - Black Limited Edition (93...
I like the ability to use my computer when and where I want. This means that the computer I prefer to use is my laptop. Unfortunately, I detest the mouse on my new laptop. I am now at the point where I can do everything rather comfortably with the built in mouse, except copy and paste. You really don't realize how often you use that feature until it becomes a complete challenge to do.
That is why I decided to buy an external mouse. There were many options, including mini mice designed for laptop use. I chose instead to go with full-sized optical mouse. The only reason I did this, however, was because the mouse was free. Yes, I just said I got it for free because of a promotion with a full-rebate on this Logitech mouse.
While the allure of the deal was great, there are many other reasons that I think this is the right mouse for me. I use my laptop any and every where. Depending on where I am, I sometimes have to put my mouse on one side of the computer or another. This mouse makes it easy to be ambidextrous. I am easily able to click away with either my right or left hand.
Another reason to use this mouse is the fact that it is an optical mouse. Optical mice have no balls. This means there won't be any "junk" getting caught on the ball and I won't have trouble with the ball getting stuck.
The fact that it is an optical mouse also means I can use it on almost any surface. Right now I am using it on a leather couch. Sometimes I use it right on the part of my computer where my wrists rest when I am typing. I've used it on top of books, on a table top, and even on the floor, all with no problems.
Logitech claims this mouse is up to two times faster than other optical mice. I own other optical mice which I use on other computers, and I have not noticed a difference.
Setting Up
The first time you use the mouse, you will have to set it up. Setting up could not have been simpler for me. I turned off my computer and plugged in the computer. The mouse itself is USB, but it also came with an adapter to plug into a mouse port (PS/2), so anyone can use this mouse.
Are you waiting to hear what else I did to set up this computer? Oh. I turned it on. Yup, that was it. I was shocked. I hadn't even gotten the install cd out of the holder yet when I realized the mouse was already working. The software is included, however, so I am assuming that some people will actually have to install it.
Mouse Colors
This mouse is available in a few color options. I chose the blue because that was the one that was free with the rebate, although, both silver or black would have matched my computer a little better. Despite the different color options for this mouse, they all use an infer-red light, so the bottom part will "glow" red while you are using it.
Overall
This is a basic optical wheel mouse. It performs well and has worked on every surface on which I have tried it. I would definitely buy this mouse again, even if I hadn't received it for free.
