| sinclairaw's Full Review: Microsoft Wireless Optical Blue (K80-00002) Mouse |
I've had this Microsoft Wireless Optical mouse for several months now. So far I haven't had any problems, and I really like the mouse's wireless range, comfortable design and quality.
Features
Since most mice these days are optical, the most notable feature about this mouse is the fact that it's wireless. If you're like me and have 28 different cords running behind your desk, the last thing you need is a mouse cord to get tangled up as well. If you've never experienced a wireless mouse, you're missing out on the ease of use and flexibility that comes when cords are absent.
This is the second wireless mouse I've owned, and I'm much happier with this one than the last. First, it has an unbelievable range of at least 20 feet. This means you can use it with Powerpoints when you're standing halfway across the room or toss it to a friend sitting next to you without a worry.
Next, this mouse is automatically detected in Windows XP and other operating systems, so there's no need to install an additional driver.
Tracking
Unlike other reviewists, I don't find that the cursor is sluggish on screen. When I first used this mouse, I noticed a slight delay when I moved it but I don't notice this anymore; I'm not sure if I've just gotten used to it or if it was a temporary problem with the computer.
Quality and Ease of Use
This mouse seems to be of great quality. The top part (that you hold on to) is made of a (in lack of another word) "grip-y" rubbery plastic substance that is much nicer to hold than plastic alone. The bottom of the mouse glows red in the dark, and you can see a glow emanating from the bottom in total darkness- that's pretty cool by itself. Finally, the scroll wheel works well and is very useful is scrolling through web pages and Word documents.
Battery Life
I'll make this short and sweet: in over 4 months, I've only changed the batteries once, and the mouse only becomes inoperable when the AA's are completely dead. The cursor doesn't jump around on the screen otherwise, unlike some wireless optical mice.
My only real complaint is that the main button squeaks sometimes when clicked. This could be just my mouse or something that got into it; don't let this stop you from buying this great mouse.
With the arrival of a new generation of Microsoft mice, think twice before spending more than $25 on this one. If you can get it on sale though, it's a great buy.
