| silflayhraka's Full Review: Microsoft Wireless Optical Blue (K80-00002) Mouse |
Before I waste your time telling you what is wrong with Microsoft's Wireless Optical Mouse Blue, let me tell you what to buy, available at your local BJ's Warehouse or other online outlet: this no-name made in China mouse set (it's actually TWO mice in the package, at BJ's at least). The brand is called "inland" - right, I never heard of it either. But I'm oh so glad I bought it. The inland mouse set features a wireless optical mouse and recharging cradle, like the Logitech version at 2x the price (and no second mouse), and also a "free" notebook mini-sized optical USB corded mouse. Both are SUPERB. Both track PERFECTLY, just like the best ball mice in clean condition (and we all know that's why you buy opticals). LOVE them. GREAT. $35 for the pair, and they include NiMH batteries! No cheesy NiCads. Also, the desktop mouse has forward/back navigation buttons, more like the "explorer" intellimice.
OK, so what about the Microsoft Blue? Well, even with a fresh set of batteries, not rechargeable either, I might add, and with the receiver inches away, the mouse tracks horribly. Move the mouse in circles, it spirals to the right. Tracking left doesn't seem to work as well as right. Tried a variety of surfaces, normal mousepad, 3M Precise Mousing Surface, plain desk. No change, still stinks. Plug inland USB mouse into the notebook, voila! Perfection on any surface. Amazing too how Windows works with 3 mouse devices at once, but it does. USB mouse is light as a feather too- no weighted ball & no batteries = really light. No pun intended.
The optical hologram or whatever the lense thingy is looks identical on the inland mouse compared to the Microsoft one, but oddly, inland works and Microsoft doesn't. A slight difference: inland's led points "up" (away from you), where Microsoft's points from left to right.
Now go buy the other mouse, and pass of Mr. Gates' latest attempt to control the universe.
