| arthurmccaine's Full Review: Microsoft Wireless Optical Blue (K80-00002) Mouse |
After purchasing this product I was instantly impressed with the quality of it. Prior to using having this product I used just a plan old 2 button mouse with a ball. I will never go back to 'balled' mouse again, nor will I ever touch a corded mouse either. This is my first wireless/optical mouse so I have no experience on how it rates with any other mice of its kind.
Firstly I purchased this as a packaged deal. If you purchase this Mouse you got the matching 'blue' Microsoft Internet keyboard. It was a steal for only $40 CDN.
The software that comes with it is easy to configure, almost dummy free. It installed on Windows XP Pro without any problems.
The distance from the receiver with this mouse varies I suppose to what environment youre using it in. The average range I can get is 6 feet, and rarely any further. There can be obstacles in front of the sensor for I believe it works on radio frequencies and not infrared technology. I have placed my receiver underneath my monitor and I havent had any issues with the mouse not talking to the receiver.
The speed and accuracy of this product in games is definitely on par with a normal corded mouse. In fact it's better because there is never a cord in the way. So you can trash about your desk all you want. The freedom is the number one feature of this product.
The ergonomics of it dont seem to be a problem. I purchase a very tiny wrist rest and no cramps so far. The buttons work perfect, and the scroll wheel is a must for anyone who surfs the web everyday!
The only feature I find annoying is the red light (the optical sensor, located on the bottom of the mouse) seems to be always on. The intensity of the beam changes if it is being moved but there always seems to be a laser light around the bottom of the mouse. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. My computer is in my bedroom and it is kind of freaky to see this light coming from my mouse late at night. Im sure with the light intensity changing to dim when the mouse is not in use is power saving feature but imagine how much battery life gets sucked out of the mouse when Im not using it.
Yes this product does require batteries, and I believe it came with batteries. I have now had my computer for 3 months and only changed the batteries once and that was 2 weeks ago. So practically 9-10 weeks of battery life depending on usage I suppose.
I use this product on my desk surface with no mouse pad and as long as my desk is clean it glides along without a hitch. No problems with accuracy, nor lag.
Overall thumbs up!
