| rsud's Full Review: NAD T743 5.1 Channels Receiver |
Tried several other receives in and just above this price range. This receiver has no bells and whistles but if you need 23 different surround sound modes of which you will use none (gee, I'm not too opinionated here!) then look else where.
What you get is basic surround sound modes (see specs so I won't regurgitate them here) and EARS processing which takes stereo and puts it out over 5.1 (again see spec details).
In my humble opinion the qualities this receiver are:
- Relaxed, authoritative, warm, natural, musical sound.
- Good amount of transparency which helps the speakers disappear (assuming you also get decent speakers, see more on what I got below).
- Excellent sub to satellite integration. I purchased a velodyne sub/satellite speakers (an absolute steal at the clearance price of $600 direct from velodyne). Other receivers (yamaha, denon, sony) I could hear the discontinuity between the sub and the satellite because of the missing lower midrange/upper bass but with this NAD the integration is seamless.
- Unit runs failry warm (probably class A) but the sound quality is clearly in a class above similarly priced models.
All in all, having brought several surround sound receivers into my home prior to the NAD (yamaha, Denon, sony) and being pretty displeased with their antiseptic, lifeless, unmusical sound the NAD was a definite wow!
Very pleased!
