I picked up one of these last night from Future shop after seeing that they were on sale at Bestbuy for $349.99 plus a $50 rebate ($299.00 end result)(Canadian)
Bestbuy was out of stock but were still giving out rain checks, so I went over to Future shop and spoke to a guy there.
Not only did he match the price he threw in a DVI cable as well as the standard VGA cable.
All I can say is WOW, what a nice monitor. Set it up last night and was pretty darn impressed.
Ran it through a bunch of stuff, games, apps, etc. and everything performed great. Anyone worried about gaming on this need not worried it looks great, I saw no ghosting or anything that unpleasing...
It even looks pretty nice at 1024x768 & pretty good at 800x600 (Which was a concern, and a bit of surprise as I have seen other LCD, that really don't look good at anything other than native resolution) This was nice because the kids & wife don't like to run at 1280x1024...
Has speakers, but I didn't use them, so I really can't comment on them but they are pretty tiny so I wouldn't expect much. But keep in mind that on a LCD the speakers are not suppose to be much, they are not designed to blow you away, only to give sound for people who do not have a dedicated speaker set up. But they don't NEED to be hooked up, and because of the slick design you don't even know they are there.
I used the recommended DVI cable with it and the picture is amazing, and not one dead pixel.....
Supports insane refresh rates and resolutions as well, but I let it pick out what it wanted, and pretty much used the defaults, but I did lower the brightness.
It has a great field of view, much better than many that I have looked at.
Only a few "annoyances" if you can call them that
1) The touch sensitive "invisible" buttons on the stand to open the menu for the settings, etc. are VERY touchy, once activated. You do have to hold your finger on them for a few seconds to activate though. Not a big deal as you don't need to go into them too much, but navigating the onscreen setting is pretty tricky at first.
2) BRIGHT - you need not worry about this puppy being dim. I set the brightness down to ZERO, and it's still very bright, (Not too bright, but you can't really dim the screen down completely, like you can with a CRT) I was a little concerned with this as I know a few games that I play I needed to adjust for my CRT, But it actually worked out quite nice, instead of having to "brighten" the gamma or screen, I set it back to the default and was quite pleased. If you want it dimmer, most games can adjust the brightness down as well...
3) With the DVI, because it gets all of the information from your video card directly with no conversions needed, a lot of the settings can't be adjusted, for he most part it is automatic. (Color, was one of them, with the analogue cable you can adjust hues, etc, but with the DVI it doesn't give you access to that (or least I can't figure out how). Not really a big issue as all of the colors look pretty much perfect to me, but this may annoy a few people. But if you want the control you can always use the standard VGA cable as well, but then you may notice a difference in the quality until you get it fine tuned to your liking. But regardless either cable works great, and the picture is still amazing on each.
All in all I'm very, very happy with the LCD, and thought that I would share the experience with everyone in case you have been looking, because it's a great price, especially with the $50 Rebate until Feb 5th or so.
