EA Sports once again brings out a new version of it's most popular hockey game, NHL 2000. It's loaded with a couple of new advancements in all aspects of the game as well as many new features as well. Currently, the NHL series from EA Sports is the most played hockey video game in the world.
When NHL 99 had came out, people were saying how EA Sports was just one of those companies which wanted to steal your money by coming out with a new version every year, adding one or two new features and putting it on the market. I honestly agreed with that belief last year and I think that EA Sports realized that people were also thinking this way. Then year 2000 edition sports games, they worked really hard and added way more features and advancements to their games than normal. I guess they wanted to show people that they aren't a company that is just in the business for the money, but also in it to make really good video games. If you were to compare the 1998 to 1999 version of their games there is not really that much of a difference but if you compare the 1999 to 2000 version there is a big difference.
In the PC version of NHL 2000, there are a couple of new and cool features added to the game. The graphics are a bit better as well as the game play. The main menu also looks a lot better as well. The season mode of the game is now more like a career mode. You can have multiple seasons after seasons, and you can draft new players after each season as well. The limit on the amount of seasons you can play are 5. Also in the PC version there is a free agent list where certain players who become free agents can be signed on your team.
In the copies of Playstation and N64, I have heard from a couple of colleagues of mine that the game play and loading time is much faster. Also, the Playstation and N64 version has the feature where you can draft players after a season as well as the free agency where you can try drafting players who become free agents.
All in all, EA Sports have redeemed themselves and have shown sports fans that they can make realistic games. NHL 2000 is one of my favorite games and I spend a large portion of my week playing it. I would recommend NHL 2000 to anyone who likes the game of hockey. If you don't like hockey, I think it would be kind of hard liking to play this game.
