angelopb's Full Review: Nakamichi CD-400 Car CD Player
I have had this head unit for over 3 years. As anyone knows, you can't walk into a Circuit City or Best Buy and find Nakamichi. The market is saturated with head units that have flashy displays and light shows. Lacking are the old school units that have decent preamps and are intuitive to operate.
This player is a dream to operate. It is fool-proof. Besides the usual lows and highs, this until allows you to tweak your mids as well. The sub output is also useful, as you can max the sub output in order to feed your amp a hotter signal. The display is easy to tweak to your interior, so long as your instrument lights are amber or green.
The loudness control is seldom used in my car, as I usually increase my sub via a seperate volume pot.
The FM reception is superior to your usual crappola after market head units. The radio is listenable, even at high volume. I listen to a lot of NPR and public stations. The low wattage stations offer the best content but often are hard to pull in. If FM is important, then this Nak will make you happy.
I have used the aux inputs for my MD player and friends' iPods. I once even played a bass guitar through them, using the stereo signal of a Korg PX4 Bass Pandora (pocket effects processor). Wow!
I am waiting for a version with HD radio. In the mean time, I will continue enjoying this unit.
