| Green_Kiwi's Full Review: Nakamichi DR 8 Single Dual Cassette Deck |
I have the Nakamichi DR-3, which is the older model comparable to the DR-8. I've had this unit for roughly seven years without a problem. If you want to get a solid cassette deck, you have to go Nak. It's playback is solid and if you use a good quality tape, then recordings off of CD's have near CD quality sound. This model does not have 3 discrete heads, like the DR-10, but it will outperform just about every other 3 head deck on the market. This model does not have some of the creature comforts of other cassette decks, like a remote or auto-reverse, instead it offers a clean design optimized for the reproduction of sound. The only issue I have ever experienced with my DR-3 is its ability to record and playback tapes at a higher record level then any other device. I've recorded tapes on my DR-3 that sound amazing on it, and sound saturated on a friends NAD. This is easily remedied by lowering the record level when recording a tape that will be played back on a non-Nakamichi cassette deck.
The build quality of this device is excellent. After seven years of use, I haven't had a single failure or had to do anything besides clean the heads.
Simply put, Nakamichi makes the ultimate cassette deck. Don't get fooled by some company saying that their 3 head design is better then the Nakamichi 2 head models, get both and do a head to head comparison and let your ears be the guide.
