cracker24's Full Review: Nancy Drew: Stay Tuned for Danger for Windows
This is the second story in the Nancy Drew series and being an avid Nancy Drew fan, I went crazy and purchased all of them. Just like with anything you purchase the older editions may not have all the bells and whistles. However, that doesn't mean that the older ones aren't classics in and of themselves.
In this 3-D story, Nancy is invited onto the set of one of the hottest soap operas to track down what appears to be an enraged stalker. The story begins with Nancy arriving and staying with one of the stars on the show.
Nancy proceeds to search the apt she's staying in before heading to her next destination to investigate. While there, she has a couple puzzles she needs to solve to get a couple items she will use later on in the game.
Unlike the prior game, this game had quite a bit more rooms to explore at various locations and different things happened depending on whether it was night or day in the game. To travel back and forth to locations, Nancy always called a cab. Ironically though, she never seemed to pay the cab driver to bring her anywhere. There were also quite a few secret passages in this game and it was creepier than the first.
Whether it was diffusing a bomb, or pushing the star out of the way of falling lighting, figuring out logic puzzles and sneaking into safes and offices, Nancy Drew does it all in this episode.
I was surprised at the ending as it wasn't who I suspected at all. The suspect list once again was between 4-5 characters all with means, motive and opportunity.
The game once also offers you the opportunity to play at both the senior and junior level with senior being the more difficult of the two. There is also an introductory tutorial at the beginning of the game to teach novices about the various facets of the interface. As with the prior game, players are given the option to fix a fatal mistake.
Bess and George with the addition of Ned Nickerson are available at all hours of the day and night apparently for Nancy to call and get hints on what to do next and or how to solve a particular problem.
Another interesting nuance to this game, is that there are certain things that can only be done at night or during the day. Nancy has the option to change the time and speed it up. I like this feature because in certain cases you wonder around with nothing to do or so you think but once it changes to night, it's a whole new ballgame.
I had a problem with a couple of the puzzles in the beginning but eventually solved the case I am happy to say.
Music- I think they do an excellent job. Music changes depending on situation and I definately find the music creepier late at night playing the game with lights off etc. Graphics are decent although they still look a bit like cardboard cutouts. Details in each scene were explicit. Everything fit the theme of the game and there were plenty of interesting twists and turns to the plot.
The only negatives I found is that the plot twists may be a bit scary for youngsters. It says its age appropriate for 10 and up but I think it probably should be for kids in their teens and up. At 33, I enjoyed it and had some difficulties with puzzles since my hand-eye coordination isn't as good as it was when I was younger.
