This adapter had a few "growing pains" as it was released. Non-operable and incompatible drivers for Windows XP caused the unit to fail and lock up the computer. NetGear was apparently caught offguard when Windows XP SP 2 was released and had no answer for the incompatibility problem. Several months later, a "beta" driver was quietly released which allowed the adapter to function as designed. The company, however, said that it wouldn't support the "beta" version.
Be sure to note that there are 3 versions of this adapter which all look exactly the same but take different drivers.
With the correct driver, it is a good wireless adapter.
