1) the box said WPA support would be available in a future firmware upgrade. This was a major point influencing my purchase decision. But now Netgear answers my inquiries with "no such upgrade will be offered." (WG602v1)
2) the performance slows down over time. Extensive testing shows that the ping time from a wireless node to the AP is fine, but pings from the AP to the wired network are delayed or packets are lost. Response time goes from 1msec after a fresh boot to over 100ms within 12 hours. After 24 hours packets are being lost left and right. The thing needs to be rebooted every day just to get tolerable performance. This is with the latest (1.7.15) firmware revision.
3) I wrote to Netgear about the above problem and didn't receive any response for 4 days. Then I got an email reply offering to help me with my configuration settings over the phone if I pay $1.99/minute for their support. Of course, I don't need help with my settings, they're perfectly fine. It's just that their firmware obviously has a resource leak that causes the AP to slow down and lose packets as it runs out of memory. Why should I have to pay $1.99/minute for the privilege of explaining to them that their firmware is broken?
Avoid Netgear at all costs.
