Pros: Easy to use, light weight, protective cover, eye glass friendly
Cons: Can't think of any
I dont bird watch or spy in to my neighbors windows or anything like that, so when it came to getting a pair of binoculars I really just wanted something basic. Something I could use at concerts when I have bad seats or to get a better look at things while the family and I are out sight seeing on a vacation. No real need for anything fancy at all, just something to look at things that are far away, and make them look like they are close. I told my father in law that I was interested in getting a pair of binoculars because he is really in to the whole bird watching thing. He owns at least 4 different pairs of binoculars all at different price ranges. He was thrilled that I was actually interested in getting something that he was interested in so he actually bought me a pair of binoculars. He got me the Nikon Action 16x50 Binoculars 7223. This was a pretty generous gift as these binoculars cost around $100 per pair. This is about a medium price for a pair of binoculars.
These binoculars are light in weight and not too large in size, they are easy and comfortable to look through, and they are not heavy and bulky when you are walking about carrying them around your neck like a necklace. They are also easy to use, and even the kids can figure out how to use them and focus. I have seen some binoculars (my father in laws) that are huge, and complex, and with out a manual you cant even figure out how to focus them properly. I dont have that problem with these, they are very amateur friendly.
They are made of a durable plastic, and they are also covered in a rubbery surface, this helps to keep them from slipping from your hands. This is a good thing if you are hiking and you are sweaty. It is also a good thing for my family that they are covered since my kids have a way of dropping things, and these have been dropped a couple of times but have still managed to stay unbroken. My youngest child even swung the binoculars in to a rock, I thought for sure that he broke them, but he didnt.
Eye Relief:15 - 12mm
Field of View:4.5 - 2.9 deg.
Magnification:8X - 16X
The binoculars are very good and easy to use with most standard tri-pods. The binoculars easily fit on to the same tri-pod that we have for our cam corder.
One reason my father in law chose this particular pair of binoculars for me and my family is because my daughter and I both wear glasses. The Nikon Action 16x50 Binoculars 7223 have an advanced eyepiece design that also offers substantial eye relief, and is eye glass friendly.
The viewing from these binoculars is very clear and we could see things very far away. We carry them on a strap around our neck and even after wearing them on my neck all day long they did not weigh heavy on my neck like some heavier binoculars would. After a full day, I only had a little minor irritation from the strap, which is included by the way. While in Florida however, I did get sun burnt around the strap, which really hurt and looked really attractive but that is not really the binoculars fault.
We like this particular pair of binoculars they have worked well for our family. They are family friendly. They can withstand a bit of abuse from the kids. They are easy to use and give a nice clear view, and I can use them with my glasses on with no problem. They are also nice and light and easy to carry around, around my neck, they are also just small enough that they can be tucked in to a back pack, the back of a stroller, or in a large purse or diaper bag.
The Nikon Action (16x50) Binoculars are perfect for us, and we plan to have and use them for many vacations, and events in the future.
