Nikon Warranty-or lack of warranty.

Pros: The camera took clear crisp images (130) until the lens cover mechanism failed.

Cons: Nikon's warranty might lead you to consider other vendor's that are more customer sensitive.

I purchased a Nikon Coolpix 5200 about two months ago. I took pictures on vacation, and was pleased with the camera's performance. While on another vacation I took several pictures, put the camera in my bag, and took it out a few minutes later to take more pics. This time the lens cover would not open. I sent the camera back to Nikon for what I thought would be a warranty repair (no abuse-obviously a manufacturing or design problem). I received a repair estimate for $168 plus return shipping.

I have asked to have the camera returned while I contemplate pressing on my CC to return my purchase price, sick the AG on Nikon, and consult my attorney. If the warranty does not cover failures of the camera, what does it cover? I suspect I am covered against alien attacks, but not lens cover mechanism failures!!!
