Re: Good Review- Good Tech Data, but... (Reply to this comment)

I can't argue with nostalgia, but my point is that whether the nostaligia is worth the high price. For some people it might cost $600 just to recreate their library of games when for less they can start new memories on a new system. And that doesn't take into account the games with battery backup which might be dead. Is it worth it to have to play through Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior in one sitting because the battery is dead?
Besides most of us who had a Nintendo when we were little have since moved on to the modern consoles anyway. Or if we have kids, we've gotten them a modern console with games rather than shell out the same amount of money for a NES. I suppose we are talking about collector's items rather than simply video games.

Good Review- Good Tech Data, but... (Reply to this comment)

I think you are really missing the point.
No one who is paying $25 for a Contra cartridge is doing to for the "entertainment value" as held to the standard of a Playstation 2.
They are paying that much for it because they had it as a kid, and they want to play it again.
Therein lies an "entertainment value" that is worth a heckuva lot more than any modern system can offer.
Playstation 2 is great, but it wasn't what I played when I was 12 years old.

WOW! I am really impressed with your articles, especially this one!
Now I wish I didn't sell my SNES and all my RPGS (Final Fantasy 2, 3 and 4, Secret of Mana, etc). Although I like the new FF's on PS2 I think the music score was actually better on the SNES Final Fantasy games. I really miss them...sigh...

NES rules! (Reply to this comment)

The NES is the best console ever. Although I would say your argument that the games are as expensive now as they were then is kind of laughable. The best way to get old carts is through ebay auctions where people are selling big lots of them. A lot of people don't know what they have. Also, flea markets are a good place to look.
Good review, although the first two sections are just lists of facts, not really a review!

I still have my NES too. Dr. Mario is so damn addictive...and of course Final Fantasy and all the Mario games.

The true testament of the power of the NES is that 15 years later I still have one hooked up to my TV and it gets playing time, too.
Great review on the NES.
