Pros: Ergonomic handle, shaves close and comfortably without cutting the skin.
Cons: Occasional "pull" on neck whiskers.
The Bottom Line: Without a doubt, Norelco simply can't be beat as far as close shaves are concerned. If used and maintained properly, this baby leaves your face looking clean and smooth.

| alexdg1's Full Review: Philips Micro 5625 X Electric Shaver |
Even though I have sometimes grown a beard -- either to look a bit older and more mature or to look like a writer -- I have been using Norelco electric shavers for the better part of the past quarter century. At first I used electric shavers because I thought using disposables like the Atra would leave my face and neck full of nicks and cuts; my cerebral palsy makes my dexterity a bit iffy, you see, and because I was still in high school when my beard really started growing, the Norelco option seemed to be not only safer and less bloody, but also less time-consuming. (I do, from time to time, practice shaving with my trusty Afta, just to cover all the shaving and grooming bases.)
The Norelco Micro 5625 X Electric Shaver is a rechargeable version of the classic three-head design that Philips introduced over 30 years ago. The patented Micro Action Shaving System aligns the rotating blades so that they are closer to my skin, which results in a definitely close and comfortable shave. The blades actually "pull" on facial and neck hairs in the now-famous "lift and cut" move; a well-designed and crafted combination of independently floating heads, a "Microgroove" in each of the three heads, and an ergonomic handle make shaving a relatively easy and safe part of the male grooming routine.
That isn't to say that the blades sometimes don't pull on hairs that grow in the more sensitive neck area; they do, and it smarts a little. However, using a pre-electric shaving lotion and some care in your shaving techniques can prevent this "pulling" effect, or at least minimize the discomfort.
To ensure a consistently good quality of your morning shave and to keep the Norelco 5625 X running smoothly, you should recharge the NiCad battery for 16 hours once the charge runs out. This should give you 30 minutes' worth of shaving time a year -- it takes three minutes or so for the average guy to shave his face and neck areas. You should also use the cleaning brush after each use and at least once a month "deep clean" the heads and cutting blades in a bit of alcohol. You should also replace the razor heads once every year with the HQ4Plus Replacement Heads for the best razor performance.
I've been using this electric shaver for almost a year (must replace those heads soon!), and thus far I've had no complaints about it. It fits comfortably in my hand and, if used with Mennen Afta Pre-Electric Shaving Lotion, it cuts my beard close without breaking the skin. The result? A nice, smooth look to my soon-to-be 42-year-old face, which feels clean and comfortable. Better yet, I don't get nicks and cuts like when I use my manual Atra razor.
