| fibonacci112's Full Review: Olympus Camedia C-8080 Wide Zoom Digital Camera |
I have owned a number of cameras from film days to the new digitals and needed one with a resolution high enough for me to make good sized enlargements. I was pleased at how flexible this camera really is. If your aim is simply to make high resolution images with as little fuss as possible, this camera will gladly oblige. Simply set everything to "auto" and shoot away. You will get beautiful sharp images that can be enlarged to 11x14" with no loss of detail.
On the other hand, those who want to venture a little deeper will find the camera very responsive. A button can be programmed to show the histogram of the shot you are composing. There are two settings for macro; one for medium close and one for very close, both have variations that allow for manual focusing since contrast on extreme close-ups can be too low to allow the camera's auto focus to work properly.
One day, as I was learning how to operate the camera, I learned that the camera could 'see' my TV's remote control light. A little more checking confirmed that this camera is in fact capable of taking Infrared photos. I have had a great deal of fun ever since taking advantage of this rather surreal source of images.
If you feel compelled to experiment with images created with light outside the visible range I suggest you check out Eric Cheng's informative site at: http://echeng.com/photo/infrared/
He uses a different camera, but much of the information is the same.
I have only had this camera a few weeks, but I have only begun to scratch the surface of all that is possible with this well-built and extremely flexible instrument.
