It's About Time... (Reply to this comment)
by ASourdough4
...it looks as if Olympus is looking for more customers; what with TWO major steps in the right direction:
1. Power - They got rid of the mini battery and;
2. CompactFlash Card compatibility.
Now, all the rest of the features; i.e. "camera" make sense.
Another great job, Howard!

Barbara I did receive your e-mail and replied. You are never a bother. I have sent another e-mail-let me know if you haven't received it yet and we will have to work out a different means of communication.

Howard,
Dave stole my thunder. All I can say is that there won't be a better review of this camera by anyone else here at epinions and probably not even by the pros at the camera mags.
A bravisima performance!

Thoroughly reviewed, I'd say ! ! ! (Reply to this comment)

I've been researching digital cameras for a little over two months now, and have been waiting for this review for a couple weeks. This camera was near the top of the list, as well as the C5050. I've researched it so thoroughly, in fact, that this review would be the deciding factor for me. If the 5060 came in with a good Howard review, I would buy it. If the 5060 lacked in Howard's opinion, the 5050 was for me. Thanks for putting in the hard, professional research, and I'm set to watch for the C5060 to go on sale so I can buy.

ok, as usual I'm getting confused... (Reply to this comment)

I finally am going to break down and buy a digital camera and it seems that I have narrowed the vendors down to Canon and Olympus. I don't want to worry about red-eye issues, I want a general purpose camera that shows realistic scenery shots and people look normal, not ghostly plus I am a novice camera user which reasonably memory storage and don't want to have reasonable battery life. Which one would you recommend? I am leaning between the Olympus C-750UZ and the Canon S50. Do you think I will be happy with one of those?

First Bokeh, now Tweakability (Reply to this comment)

You're expanding my photographic lexicon as well as my knowledge of these new digital camera gizmos.
I've been curious about the 5060 since its announcement. Mostly I've been wondering how the new lens will affect sales. I've heard the 5060 is intended to replace the 5050 rather than supplement the line. A great thing about the 5050 is that f1.8 lens. It gives me the ability to shoot in situations where a flash would be unnacceptable and a tripod out of the question. I like the 5060 for expanding to the wide side which appeals to my love of wide angles. Today, I'd be in a quandry on which camera to buy.
I bet that I'd go with the newer model for its subtle but better features including the swiveling monitor and the better power system which beats the already remarkable 5050. But the price of those new batteries -- yikes!
Howard, you've done this camera good. Consumers will not see a better, more comprehensive, review in all of the print or Internet world. Another fantastic job.

You sure cover all the bases it is hard to come up with enough good things to say about your reviews. Keep them coming and I still think you should write a book.
