I researched a while for a camera below $200.00 and this was what seemed to be the best bet. I find that it takes excellent photos. I like the fact that you can either use the optical view or the large 1.8” LCD and that both show an accurate display even when zooming. A friend of mine has an older Cannon and the optical view is fixed so if you zoom and do not look at the LCD you don't really know what you’re taking a picture of. I also really like the macro, I can take pictures in the super macro mode and it looks like I've taken the picture through a microscope, there is so much detail it's hard to believe the camera cost under $200.00. As for the battery life yes if you use AA you will be going through them like water, however I purchased a crv3 battery a few months ago and am still using it, I have taken 120 photos on HQ mode and battery life stills seems good. I have noticed that the flash can wash out an image a little but using the supplied software you can adjust the contract just like on a TV and correct it on your pc. One last thing I also like that it tells you in the bottom right side of the screen how many more pictures you can fit on the picture card. In HQ mode I can take over 300 pictures with a 128 card.
