The MAUSB-100 is extremely affordable, and fast way to get your pictures and movies off of an Olympus or Fuji xD Picture Card. Click on the link to see this thumbnail-sized card. Quite small.
I have been using my newly purchased Fuji FinePix A330 quite a bit around the holiday season and I really have grown weary of the USB adapter that connects directly from the camera to a USB port in a given computer. The main reason is that Im all about saving battery power if I can and the Camera to USB forces you to have the camera on to make the upload.
I found about a half dozen different adapters for my xD card, but I decided that the MAUSB-100 was the best to fit my needs. The different kinds of adapters were Compact Flash cards where the xD card fits into the CF Card or different types of USB Jump Drives. I found some of these Jump Drive adapters on eBay for a few dollars, but I am not going to trust my ~80 512 MB card in a cheap $3 no-name adapter on eBay. Thats just me.
I chose the MAUSB-100 because it was made from the company that helped develop the xD card (Olympus, Fuji, and Toshiba). It came with a picture editing software CD retailing at $20, and it came with a card protective case.
I plan on taking the Fuji FinePix A330 and my xD card on the Appalachian Trail, so I need lightweight equipment, yet I cannot sacrifice weight for durability.
The MAUSB-100 currently recognizes 512MB xD cards, so thats exactly what I need. Even though the xD card will eventually go up to 8G in memory, you will have no need to worry if you plan on staying at a 512MB card and lower.
HOW TO USE
1) take your pictures or movies on your xD card compatible camera
2) remove your xD card
3) insert xD card into the side of the MAUSB-100 (a little picture shows the direction of the card on the MAUSB-100)
4) slide a little holding clip over the corner of the xD card to hold it in place
5) plug the MAUSB-100 into any Microsoft 2000 or higher or any Mac OS after 2000 USB port 2.0 or 1.1
6) wait for the computer to recognize the MAUSB-100 as a mass storage device
7) drag and drop just like you were doing from another folder or jump drive.
The MAUSB-100 is basically an adaptable USB Jump Drive that accepts from 16-512MB of storage cards. You can drag documents/applications from your hard drive and then transfer them on the MAUSB-100 as well. This is not just for pictures and movies. The file transfer is extremely fast and will not burn the batteries on your camera.
I've dealt with Jump Drives and card readers for the last couple years, and this has got to be the most portable and smallest card readers I've ever used. The size of a lighter, this adapter only weighs 0.5 ounces.
Just don't lose it -- it's that small.
I purchased this from ZipZoomFly.com for $27 with free shipping. The software my MAUSB-100 came with was CAMEDIA Master 4.2. I am not sure how long this will continue. But the software allows, image editing software to download, edit and print postcards, index prints, calendars and more. The MAUSB-100 also came with a 12" or so USB extension cord for those hard to reach USB ports.
