| socalh2oskier's Full Review: Olympus Stylus 410 / µ 410 Digital Camera |
Having had great luck with the 35 mm STylus, I decided to purchase the new digital stylus 410. I already had an entry level digital point and shoot--the Fuji a303, which takes great pictures, but has extremely slow lag time between shots. After one week with the Stylus 410, I am putting it on Ebay. Indoor picture quality is terrible. Pictures turn out grainy, dark, and often blurry. And forget about trying to capture any sore of action shots--invariably they are quite blurry, no matter what the setting. Indoor shots improve somewhat if you change the setting to "indoor" prior to shooting, but this takes valuable time away and is a pain to do. Also, the camera is preset at what Olympus calls its "HQ", and if you want to change the setting to smaller or larger sizes, you have to manuever through several screens---you cannot preset the camera to stay at anything other than "HQ", so if you want to take a number of shots on a trip at smaller sizes to conserve storage space or for emailing, you have to change the setting every time you turn the camera on--another pain.
The biggest disappointment though is in the picture quality. My Fuji a303 takes much better pics indoors. Outdoor shots with the Stylus 410 are okay, but not any better than the much less expensive Fuji--and the Fuji captures action shots much better. The Stylus 410 has a nice movie feature, which takes movies of any length your storage will support, with sound, but if I wanted a movie camera I would buy one. I bought this so I would have a compact digital camera that I could easily take with me that would take decent pictures. Unfortunately, the picture quality does not measure up. I strongly recommend that you look for something other than this camera--you will be sorely disappointed if you buy it. I am selling mine at a big loss and purchasing the Casio Exilim zx40.
